Bhandardara, Maharashtra | April 29, 2025: In a surprising natural spectacle, the usually seasonal Umbrella Falls in Bhandardara have come alive this summer, drawing a large number of tourists to the popular hill station in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district.

Typically active only during the monsoon, the falls are currently flowing in full force due to a controlled release of water from the Bhandardara Dam for irrigation and drinking purposes. This has created an unusual summer attraction, as most parts of the state battle rising temperatures and water scarcity.

Local tourism officials reported that the falls have become a major draw over the past few days, with hundreds of visitors arriving daily to witness the rare phenomenon. The increased flow is expected to continue for the next 8–10 days, offering a limited window for travelers to enjoy the misty cascade.

“The volume of tourists has surged significantly in the last week. People are coming from nearby cities just to experience this rare summer version of the falls,” a tourism department official said.

Amidst the sweltering heat, visitors have been seen relishing the cool mist, capturing photographs, and exploring nearby sites such as Arthur Lake, Randha Falls, and Ratangad Fort. The unexpected tourist rush has also brought a welcome boost to local hotels, eateries, and businesses.

However, the stark contrast between the roaring waterfall and the drought-stricken conditions in other parts of the state has not gone unnoticed. While Bhandardara thrives on dam releases, many villages continue to depend on water tankers for their daily needs.

Officials have urged tourists to enjoy the falls responsibly and remain cautious around slippery terrain, especially as the flow remains strong.

As nature puts on an unseasonal show, Bhandardara has quickly transformed into one of Maharashtra’s most sought-after destinations — weeks before the monsoon officially begins.
