Dharwad, Oct 17: The Dharwad District Lawn Tennis Association (DDLTA) was abuzz with excitement as the ITF Dharwad Men’s World Tennis Tour commenced amidst an elaborate inauguration ceremony graced by former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin and Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad who jointly inaugurated the tournament.
To mark the occasion, Azharuddin and the minister engaged in a thrilling display of tennis skills, playing a few exhilarating rallies that left the audience in awe.
“I am always called for cricketing events. But I am honoured that I have been invited for an event outside cricket. I am also very pleased at the kind of arrangements made by the organisers and sponsors,” said the former cricketer who has the distinction of scoring three consecutive centuries on his debut.
The prestigious event, featuring a prize purse of US $15,000, has drawn participants from more than 12 countries, setting the stage for intense competition.
The event was further enhanced by the presence of Gurudatta Hegde, the President of DDLTA, Santosh Biradar who is also the Commissioner for Dharwad District, Commissioner of Hubballi Dharwad Urban Development Authority and Sandeep Banvi, Honorary Secretary, DDLTA.
“The ITF Dharwad Men’s World Tennis Tour is a testament to the global appeal of the sport and the passion it ignites in players and fans alike,” said Hedge, President of DDLTA. “We are honoured to host this event and look forward to witnessing incredible displays of tennis talent over the coming days.”
