Lucknow, Nov 11: The Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police has busted an illegal telephone exchange following the arrest of one person from Parikshitgarh area of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, an official spokesman said on Friday.
The spokesman said that from the last few years, the ATS has been receiving information that international calls, especially those coming from the Middle East, are being converted into local calls by bypassing international gateway in the Meerut region.
“Once the international gateway is bypassed, it is impossible to identify the caller,” he said.
He said that on the basis of the information, the ATS team arrested the operator of the illegal telephone exchange, Noor Mohammad alias Sakib, from the Parikshitgarh area of Meerut late on Thursday night.
“Three active SIM boxes, around 340 pre-activated SIM cards, a modem, routers, a laptop, six mobile phones, along with other electronic equipment were recovered from the possession of the accused,” he said.
