Mumbai, April 16: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Central Railway (CR) has installed an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) onboard the Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express on an experimental basis, officials announced on Tuesday.

The ATM, provided by a private bank, has been installed in an air-conditioned chair car coach of the daily express service. It is expected to be made available to passengers shortly, CR officials confirmed.

“The ATM has been installed onboard the Panchavati Express on an experimental basis,” said Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway.

Railway officials said the ATM has been placed inside a cubicle at the rear end of the coach, which was previously used as a makeshift pantry. For safety and accessibility during travel, the cubicle has been equipped with a shutter door.

The necessary modifications to the coach were carried out at the Manmad Railway Workshop.

The Panchavati Express operates daily between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Manmad Junction in Nashik district. The one-way journey takes approximately 4 hours and 35 minutes. Due to its convenient schedule, the train is one of the most popular services on the route.

This initiative is part of Central Railway’s ongoing efforts to enhance passenger convenience and explore innovative services onboard long-distance trains.
