Nashik, Nov 06: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Nashik division apprehended Amit Gaikwad, an assistant engineer with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 crore from a complainant, who is a contractor.

Gaikwad was purportedly demanding the bribe to facilitate the clearance of a previous bill amounting to Rs 2 crore from his senior engineer, Ganesh Wagh. The contractor filed a complaint with the Nashik ACB, prompting them to set up a trap.

The ACB team successfully arrested Gaikwad on Friday night near the Shendi bypass on the Ahmednagar-Aurangabad Highway while he was in the process of accepting the bribe. During interrogation, Gaikwad reportedly confessed that engineer Wagh was also involved and had a 50% share in the bribe.

The accused is currently in custody, and further investigations are underway.
