After years of planning and anticipation, the much-awaited Amravati Airport at Belora, located just 15 kilometers from the city, is finally set to begin operations. Regular commercial flights will commence on April 16, 2025—ushering in a new chapter for the people of Western Vidarbha. The airport’s inauguration marks a major leap forward in regional connectivity, promising to boost economic growth and streamline travel and trade.

Bridging Decades of Waiting

For a long time, residents of Western Vidarbha had no direct air connectivity to major urban centers. The launch of Amravati Airport under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik) initiative aims to change that. With a focus on affordable and accessible air travel, the airport is expected to significantly reduce travel time while supporting the region’s agrarian and industrial sectors. Developed by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the airport is equipped with advanced safety features, including Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI), ensuring secure and efficient flight operations.

First Flight Takes Off to Mumbai

The inaugural flight from Amravati to Mumbai will be operated by Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Air India. The 72-seater aircraft has already sold out for its first journey, scheduled to depart at 11:30 a.m. and arrive in Mumbai by 1:15 p.m. With fares starting at just ₹2,100, the route offers a cost-effective alternative to the nearly eight-hour journey by road or rail. Alliance Air will operate this flight three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—drastically cutting travel time and offering greater convenience.

Economic Growth and Opportunities

The airport is expected to be a catalyst for regional development. With faster access to Mumbai, local farmers and traders can transport perishable goods more efficiently, opening up new markets and increasing profitability. Improved connectivity is also likely to attract fresh investments, stimulate business activity, and generate employment in various sectors.

Tourism, too, is expected to flourish. Western Vidarbha, known for its cultural heritage, historic temples, and natural beauty, will now be more accessible to visitors from across India and abroad.

Political Support and Public Excitement

The airport’s inauguration ceremony on April 16 will witness the presence of several prominent leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, along with other regional representatives. Their participation underscores the political will behind this landmark project and its significance for the state’s infrastructure development.

Locals have welcomed the new airport with enthusiasm, viewing it as a long-overdue upgrade that will bring lasting benefits to the region.

Looking Ahead

The opening of Amravati Airport marks just the beginning. With growing demand for regional air travel, further expansions and new flight routes are already in consideration. Backed by the central government’s UDAN scheme and built with state-of-the-art infrastructure, the airport is poised to become a vital hub in Maharashtra’s evolving transport ecosystem.

For Amravati and its surrounding regions, April 16 isn’t just the launch of a flight—it’s the launch of progress, promise, and new possibilities.
