ROME, Nov 18 — Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious in a straight-set win against third seed Daniil Medvedev at his debut ATP Finals in Turin. Alcaraz avenged his US Open semifinal loss, securing a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over the Russian.
Reflecting on his win, the 20-year-old remarked, ‘The most important thing was to stay strong mentally. His return game is amazing, and he puts so much pressure on your serve. Staying calm in those moments was key to giving myself a chance to win.’
Alcaraz, the youngest ATP Finals semifinalist since Rafael Nadal in 2006, is now set for a challenging semifinal encounter with top-ranked Novak Djokovic, a six-time champion at the year-end tournament. ‘Novak is Novak. He is the best player in the world right now. I’m going to play my best tennis and enjoy it the same way I did the past few matches,’ Alcaraz expressed.
In another semifinal matchup, Medvedev will face home favorite Jannik Sinner on Saturday.”
