Etawah, Nov 23: Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the memorial of former Defence Minister and party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav on his 85th birth anniversary in Saifai here in Etawah district.

This memorial will be built on 8.3 acres of land near the Samadhi Sthal of Mulayam popularly known as Netaji.

Speaking on the occasion, Akhilesh said that today Netaji neither forgot Saifai nor its people. He said that after discussing with many people and knowing about the memorials of social reformers around the world, it was decided that a grand memorial will be built in the memory of Netaji in Saifai on the lines of the memorial of American President Abraham Lincoln.

He said that Netaji’s historical memorial is being built on the same soil in which he was born, grew up and reached great heights. He said that after the construction of Netaji’s memorial, this place will become a place of inspiration for the coming generations and will work like a lighthouse.

The SP chief said that Netaji took such decisions in his life which helped in changing the politics of the country.

While remembering Mulayam Singh Yadav, National Chief General Secretary Prof Ram Gopal Yadav said that today is a big day for the socialists. “Akhilesh laid the foundation stone of the memorial in the memory of Netaji at an auspicious time. It will be world famous and inspiring. This memorial will forever serve as an inspiration to millions of socialists and those fighting against injustice. The work that Netaji had started has to be carried forward. Farmers, poor, backward, Dalits and women have to be given their rights and respect,” he said.
