Mumbai, Nov 8: Maharashtra and Guardian Minister of Beed district, Dhananjay Munde, said on Tuesday that 7.70 lakh farmers in the district will get advance crop insurance amount before Diwali festival.

Accordingly, Rs 241 crore will be directly credited to the farmers’ bank accounts from the Crop

Insurance Company of India, he added.

Munde had asked the district administration to issue a notification to provide 25 per cent advance crop

insurance to the insurance company by assessing the losses caused to farmers and especially to soybean producers due to prolonged failure of rains in early and middle of kharif season in the district.

The crop insurance company had objected to the grant of general insurance and appealed first to the

divisional commissioner and then to the Technical Advisory Committee of the State against the grant of general insurance.

However, both these appeals were rejected by the concerned authorities.

Munde held a state-wide meeting of insurance companies, under chairmanship of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and firmly stated to provide advance insurance in Beed district as well.

Finally, on Tuesday, the Indian Crop Insurance Company withdrew its objections and agreed to distribute 25 per cent advance crop insurance directly into bank accounts of 7.70 lakh farmers in the district. For this, the insurance company has fixed a compensation amount of Rs 241 crore.
