Srinagar, Dec 5 – Kashmiri Sikhs on Monday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant reservation to the community in J&K Assembly.
The All-Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that several bills pertaining to J&K are being tabled in the Parliament’s Winter session.
“After reorganization, the constituencies in J&K were divided and were given new names. There was a gap between Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir region. Now there are 43 seats for Jammu division and 47 for Kashmir division. Some seats have been reserved for STs and two seats for non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits,” Raina said.” But Sikhs have been ignored in all this exercise.”
He said bills including reservation of one-third of the seats in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly for women- are being tabled in Parliament.
“Why are Sikhs of Jammu and Kashmir being ignored? We as minority Sikhs directly appeal to the PM to give us reservation in the Assembly,” he said.
