New Delhi, Dec. 01 – In anticipation of the upcoming winter session of Parliament, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi is set to convene a crucial meeting with floor leaders from various political parties in both Houses. The meeting, scheduled for December 2 at the Parliament Library Building in New Delhi, aims to foster coordination and discussions among political leaders before the commencement of the session on December 4.
With a total of 15 sittings spread over 19 days, the winter session is expected to address a range of legislative matters crucial to the nation. The government, in its preparations, has listed 18 bills for consideration during the session. These bills encompass key issues, including the extension of provisions under the Women’s Reservation Act to Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry, as well as proposals to amend criminal laws.
One significant bill on the agenda involves increasing the strength of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly from 107 to 114. This move is aimed at providing representation to Kashmiri migrants, displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and Scheduled Tribes.
In addition to legislative matters, the government has also listed the first batch of supplementary demands for grants for the fiscal year 2023–24 for presentation, discussion, and voting during the winter session.
As Parliament currently grapples with 37 pending bills, of which 12 are designated for consideration and passing, and seven for introduction, consideration, and passing, the pre-session meeting seeks to streamline coordination and ensure an efficient and productive parliamentary session.
The winter session is expected to play a crucial role in addressing key issues facing the nation, and the meeting on December 2 is poised to set the tone for constructive parliamentary discussions and decision-making.
