Mumbai, Nov 28 – Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole on Monday demanded that the state government should immediately give financial assistance to distressed farmers in the state whose standing crops were damaged due to unseasonal rains on Sunday.
Talking to media at the party head office, he said that farmers in the state are facing severe crisis and are making repeated appeals to the BJP-led government for help, but the government is unable to see the plight of farmers.
Due to insensitive BJP government in the state, farmers are talking about selling their organs to repay their debts, he said.
The MPCC chief further said that unseasonal rains over last two days have once again caused huge losses to farmers.
Both the cropping seasons this year have been wasted due to natural calamities, and the farmers have become financially weaker, he pointed.
Accusing the BJP government of doing politics in declaring drought, he demanded that the government should help distressed farmers to get them out of the crisis.
Alleging that the BJP government is anti-farmer and deeply insensitive, he said that the Congress party will raise the issues of farmers in upcoming winter session of the state assembly and will ensure that farmers get compensation.
Patole has appealed farmers to have patience and not take any extreme steps.
