Jammu, Oct 25: The festival of Dussehra—the triumph of good over evil—was celebrated with religious fervour on Tuesday in parts of Jammu city.
In all, Dussehra was celebrated at around ten locations and the main function was held at Parade Ground—in the city center.
Colourful ‘jhankies’ were taken out in the areas where the festival was celebrated following which the effigies of Ravana and his two brothers Meghnatha and Kumbhkarna were lit to flames.
Large number of people participated in the celebrations and chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ when the effigies were burnt.
Huge LED screens were also installed at some locations for the public to have a glimpse of the celebrations as gathering was not allowed to move closer to the effigies as preventive measures.
Cracking of fire crackers was the main attraction during the celebrations.
Various mohalla committees were constituted for the smooth and successful conduct of the events at different locations including Parade Ground, Gandhi Nagar, Sainik Colony, Bhagwati Nagar, Janipur, Paloura, Trikuta Nagar and Channi Himamt.
Tallest effigy of Ravana about 65-feet and Meghnath and Kumbhkarna of 60-feet each was installed at Parade Ground.
The administration had made elaborate arrangements for the public while security was also in place for incident and hassle-free celebrations across the district.
