Chennai, Oct 15: A total of 29 applicants from North India were apprehended during a recruitment exam conducted by the Chennai Customs and Central Excise on Saturday. The individuals, primarily from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, were caught using electronic devices like Bluetooth for copying answers. The exams, overseen by the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), aimed to fill 17 vacancies for clerks, canteen attendants, and car drivers at Chennai Customs House.
Out of 15,000 applicants, 1,600 were shortlisted for the written exams, and a portion of them appeared at Chennai Customs House. Alerted by suspicious behavior, an exam supervisor discovered one candidate using a Bluetooth device and a concealed broadband device to receive answers from an outsider. Subsequently, officials identified 29 individuals employing similar tactics and arrested them based on a complaint filed by Customs authorities.
Authorities are actively pursuing the person who facilitated this unscrupulous practice.
