Narayana Murthy Establishes ₹12 Crore Scholarship at IIM Ahmedabad in Honour of Professor Jaswant G Krishnayya
Bangalore, India – May 27, 2025:
Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys and a noted advocate of education, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) to institute a fully-funded scholarship for outstanding students of its flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP).
The ‘Professor Jaswant G Krishnayya Merit Scholarship’ will be awarded annually to the student securing the highest CGPA at the end of the first year of the PGP. The scholarship will cover full tuition fees, hostel charges, course materials, and mess expenses for both years of the program. Mr. Murthy has committed to funding the initiative for 20 years, with the total estimated contribution amounting to ₹12 crore.
Mr. Pankaj Patel, Chairperson of the IIMA Board of Governors and Chairman of Zydus Lifesciences, highlighted the longstanding association between Mr. Murthy and IIMA. “His journey with the Institute began in 1969 and continued during his tenure as Chairman from 2002 to 2007. This generous gesture reflects his deep commitment to IIMA’s mission and the enduring impact of education,” Patel stated.
IIMA Director, Prof. Bharat Bhasker, remarked, “This scholarship is a powerful recognition of academic excellence and mentorship. We are grateful to Mr. Murthy for honouring Professor Krishnayya and enabling future leaders to thrive, regardless of financial background.”
Mr. Murthy said, “This scholarship honours the memory of Professor Jaswant G Krishnayya, who played a pivotal role in shaping my early career. I hope it inspires students to aim high and contribute positively to society.”
The initiative was supported by the IIMA Endowment Fund (IIMAEF), the Institute’s central body for alumni and CSR contributions. IIMAEF continues to drive efforts to ensure financial constraints do not hinder academic potential, while strengthening IIMA’s global standing in research and leadership.
