Man Claims Hospital Trapped Him and Forced Family to Pay ₹1 Lakh for Fake Treatment
Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh – A man has accused a private hospital of keeping him restrained while pressuring his family to pay ₹1 lakh for unnecessary treatment. The hospital staff reportedly claimed he was in a coma, but he later walked out of the ICU on his own, revealing what many are calling a case of medical fraud.
What Happened?
Banti Ninama, a resident of Deendayal Nagar, was injured during a violent fight between two groups on Sunday night. Instead of taking him to Indore for advanced care, his family admitted him to GD Hospital in Ratlam.
Doctors at the hospital told his family that he had a serious spinal fracture and had slipped into a coma. Worried about his life, his wife and mother desperately borrowed money from relatives and friends to pay for his treatment.
However, Ninama later claimed that five hospital staff members physically restrained him while they forced his family to arrange the money. Seizing an opportunity, he managed to escape from the ICU, exposing the hospital’s alleged scam.
Family’s Struggle for Money
“They told us he had a spinal fracture and was in a coma. We bought all the medicines they asked for. Then, they demanded ₹1 lakh for the treatment. We had no choice but to beg relatives for money,” said Ninama’s wife.
Ninama himself recalled, “When I regained consciousness, I asked to see my family. Instead of calling them, a doctor came and ordered me to stay put. The staff tied my hands and legs and used force against me.”
Public Outrage and Hospital’s Response
The shocking incident has sparked outrage, with many people criticizing private hospitals on social media.
- “Private hospitals need strict rules… doctors are turning into extortionists,” wrote one user.
- Another commented, “If the government provides good hospitals, private hospitals won’t be able to charge such high fees.”
Meanwhile, the hospital denied the allegations. They claimed Ninama was in the ICU and started causing trouble just two hours after admission. They also stated that his actual medical bill was ₹8,000, not ₹1 lakh.
Investigation Underway
After the video of Ninama’s escape went viral, the Chief Medical and Health Officer, under orders from the District Collector, formed a three-member committee to investigate the matter. However, before officials could record their statements, Ninama’s family transferred him to Indore for further treatment. The investigation is still ongoing.
