Agartala, Oct 5: Indicating a massive crackdown against the drug and narcotics racket, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Thursday warned stern action is on the cards against the kingpins who have been handling the whole nexus, staying behind the curtains.
“There are some people who carry on with dual identity. In society, they portray a clean image but on the flip side, they are patronizing all devious activities. The real face of these white-collar criminals needs to be unmasked and stringent punitive measures would be taken soon,” Dr Saha stated.
Playing in defensive mode may not bring the desired results but offensive action shall certainly help the law enforcement agencies to get rid of those actors, he said while advising police to go for action underlining that defensive strategy might not be helpful to combat the drug menace.
The worth of narcotic seizures crossed a few crore of rupees indicating the scale of the business, which is destroying our bright future and promising youths. If it fails to wipe out drugs and narcotic trade from society, the dream of Ek Tripura Shrestha Tripura (one Tripura best Tripura) will never be a reality and this government is committed to it, Dr Saha pointed out.
“All those who are involved in the illicit trafficking of drug and narcotic items are already identified. We have the list but waiting for concrete evidence to take robust action. They may think they can control everything but make no mistake the end will be in our favour,” Dr Saha added.
