Mercury Drops in Pune: Cold Winds from North Bring Chilling Weather

Northern winds drive Pune’s temperatures to the season’s lows as authorities urge caution.

Weather Update: Pune continues to shiver as minimum temperatures linger around 12°C, driven by cold winds from northern India. Over the past two weeks, the city has consistently recorded minimum temperatures between 12.2°C and 12.3°C, a trend attributed to clear skies and an influx of cold northern air.

The India Meteorological Department predicts that this pattern will persist for the next few days, keeping the city under the grip of a cold wave. Similar conditions have been observed across Maharashtra, with minimum temperatures in the 11°C-12°C range in districts such as Nashik and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

While the cold wave is most noticeable in Pune, it is part of a broader pattern affecting the state. Authorities are advising residents, especially children and the elderly, to take precautions as the mercury continues to dip.

Across Vidarbha, temperatures have fallen even further, with Nagpur, Akola, and Wardha recording lows of 13°C. Foggy mornings and cloudy skies have compounded the chill in these areas.

Residents are advised to brace for more chilly nights and cold mornings, as the northern winds show no signs of easing. Meanwhile, the state’s farmers are being warned to protect their crops from the risk of frost and disease, which could arise from the sudden temperature drop.
