Itanagar, Dec 19 – In the wake of recent killing of former Khonsa West MLA Yumsen Matey in a remote village in Tirap district bordering Myanmar, All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) on Monday requested Chief Minister Pema Khandu to take up with Centre to initiate necessary steps for sealing of the international borders in order to keep the anti-social elements at bay.
“Taking cognizance of the precarious law & order condition in TLC region, when a prominent (leader) of the region can be gunned down in broad daylight with full impunity without any fear for the law of land, it amply reflects the fear and duress under which common people are forced to endure with.
We seek your government to take the matter with the central government to initiate necessary steps for sealing of the international borders. It is also a matter of national integrity and breach of security of our nation when anti-social groups from across the border come and inflict terror on our soil. It is not far if such incidents continue in our land there will be utter lawlessness and civil conflict in the region.
We also request you to take stringent steps to push out all different insurgent groups and secure the TLC region,” the AAPSU memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister read.
Referring to the alleged brutal killing of the former MLA, the apex students’ organization claimed, “The terror inflicted among the people is still fresh and fear psychosis has overtaken the minds of the people.”
The State and the Central governments led by BJP with absolute majority need to demonstrate strong ‘political will’ to resolve the turmoil in TCL region once for all, it urged.
“The incident of unabated killings, ransom demands, extortion, taxing government employees from their hard-earned salary by different insurgent groups and exerting a parallel system of administration is not new in the TCL region, which every successive government in the State and Centre very well knows but has left the common masses to fetch for themselves in the hand of such non state players. We appeal your government to make earnest efforts to restore peace and tranquillity in the region.”
With the perpetrators of the December 16 incident still remaining elusive, the AAPSU demanded fast-track investigation of the homicide in a time-bound manner so that the culprits are brought before public domain at the earliest.
AAPSU also requested the CM to take up with the Govt agencies for immediate safe release of the Longding district’s Chop village Chief and GB from the clutches of their abductors.
