Hyderabad, Dec 15 – Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday said the people of Telangana have given a clear verdict to “liberate themselves” from ten years of repression in the recent Assembly election.

In the polls, the Congress won a majority winning 64 assembly seats, thereby ending the nearly 10-year-old rule of the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in the state

Addressing the members of both the Houses of Legislature in the Assembly Hall here, Tamilisai said “Telangana is breathing fresh air of freedom and liberty now” as it is liberated from autocratic rule and dictatorial tendencies.

The people’s verdict in the recent election unequivocally stated that it would not ‘tolerate any repression’ and this verdict became a cornerstone for civil rights and democratic rule, she said.

The iron barricades that divided rulers from the people have been dismantled and “I feel proud to say that the glass houses and obstacles have been removed and the true people’s governance has begun”, the governor claimed.

Congratulating all the new Legislative Assembly members who won in the recent elections with the people’s affection and support and the newly formed cabinet, she said “I am of the firm opinion that the combination of youth and experience in the Cabinet would (help it) fulfill its promises and reach its goal”.

People are experiencing the change already, the Governor said. “The fruits of change will reach the people in full measure in the new yea as our government is taking steps to give freedom, liberty, equal opportunities and social justice to people along with making governance within the reach of every citizen.

“I am sure the state will tread on the path of progress and bring light to the lives of farmers, women, youth and the poor”, the governor said in his 12-page speech.

At the time of swearing in, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy indicated his government’s aim and objectives and the “Praja Vaani “ programme is the first step in this direction, the Governor said. People can express their problems and get their grievances redressed by the government at any time.

“Our governance will soon become a role model for the entire country,” she said.

“The Telangana state was formed as per the aspirations of four crore people, the supreme sacrifices of the youth and the relentless struggle of students. My government ;’s aim is to govern keeping in view the aspirations of martyrs, the struggles undertaken by students and the desire of civil society,” the Governor added.
