Hyderabad, Dec 12 – The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday revoked the suspension of former DGP Telangana Anjani Kumar.

On December 3, the ECI suspended Anjani Kumar for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) after he visited the residence of TPCC Chief A Revanth Reddy ( now the Chief Minister) with a bouquet to congratulate him as the counting of votes are underway.

Anjani Kumar had stated that he had gone to meet Revanth Reddy to discuss the arrangements for swearing in ceremony.
However, the ECI took a serious note of it and directed the State government to place the senior IPS officer under suspension.

The EC stated that his conduct of visiting a candidate while the country of votes was still going on violated the MCC and directed the Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to suspended him.
The ECI also issued notices to two other officers of Additional DGP ranks, Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat and Sanjay Jain to Reddy’s house.

The Government then appointed the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Ravi Gupta as the new DGP of Telangana in the place of Anjani kumar.
Anjani Kumar earlier in his appeal to the EC, contended that there was no intention to violate the Model Code of Conduct.
