Shillong, Dec 2 – Meghalaya Law Minister and NPP candidate for the Lok Sabha election from Shillong seat, Dr Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh said she has not been convicted by any court in the Education Scam, asserting that no political parties should take advantage of the allegation and make it looks like she has been convicted.
“I would like to place on record that the case is being heard in the court. I have never at any point in time been convicted. Let no political party take advantage with this and make it look like I have been convicted,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Thursday evening.
Noting that the truth will reign supreme, the Law Minister said, “I stand by that. I will not speak more but I am confident that the truth will emerge as it is. Do not use it because at one point of time there will be repercussion of all of this. I will not speak more.
No person is guilty until proven otherwise. Use it, throw that ball around, I am not afraid because I am doing greater things. And when I go to court, I know what is being discussed not any man on the streets or politicians who will be trying to bat with that with me. I am ready I’ll take you on,” Lyngdoh said.
The CBI had charge-sheeted Lyngdoh and retired government officials, J D Sangma and Ameka Lyngdoh for manipulating score sheets of candidates in the infamous Education Scam of 2009.
The pending criminal case against Lyngdoh involves offences under Sections 120-B, 420, 467, 468, 471, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
