New Delhi, Nov 25: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken cognizance of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and issued a show cause notice. The notice, in response to a complaint filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), requires Rahul Gandhi to provide an explanation by November 25.

In the complaint, the BJP alleged that during a public meeting in Rajasthan on November 22, the former Congress President spoke in an “obnoxious” manner about PM Modi. The specific terms that drew attention were “Jaibkatra” (pickpocket) and “Pannauti.”

The ECI, in its notice, expressed concern over the language used by Rahul Gandhi, stating that comparing a Prime Minister to a ‘Jaibkatra’ and using the word ‘Pannauti’ is unbecoming of a very senior leader of a national political party.

The Election Commission has given Rahul Gandhi until November 25 to respond and provide his explanation regarding the alleged derogatory remarks. The show cause notice emphasizes the need for decorum and respectful language in political discourse, especially from leaders holding significant positions in national parties.

The development adds to the ongoing political discourse and exchanges between major political parties in the country as the Election Commission continues to play a crucial role in maintaining the sanctity of democratic processes.
