New Delhi, Nov 24 — The Election Commission of India (ECI) has served a show cause notice to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for his alleged derogatory remarks, including terms like “Jaibkatra” and “Pannauti,” directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the notice, the ECI has requested a response from Rahul Gandhi by November 25, seeking an explanation for the accusations made against him. The complaint was filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), contending that the former Congress President used “obnoxious” language against PM Modi during a public meeting in Rajasthan on November 22.

The ECI, in its notice, highlighted that such comparisons, equating the Prime Minister to a ‘Jaibkatra’ (pickpocket) and using the term ‘Pannauti,’ are considered unbecoming of a senior leader from a national political party.
