Bengaluru, Nov 18: In a recent development, senior Janata Dal (Secular) leader CM Ibrahim has been suspended by party president HD Deve Gowda for alleged “anti-party activities.” The suspension comes after Ibrahim voiced opposition to the party’s decision to join the BJP-led NDA ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

Ibrahim, who had been critical of the JDS-NDA alliance, urged Gowda to reconsider the tie-up, citing the departure of several JDS leaders in neighboring states due to the alliance. The party president replaced Ibrahim as the state president with his son, HD Kumaraswamy, on October 19.

The internal discord within the JD(S) reflects tensions over the strategic direction the party is taking in the political landscape.
