Chidambaram UPA Government Can't Be Blamed for Loss of Lives During Telangana Statehood Agitation

Hyderabad, Nov 17: Apologising for the loss of lives during the Telangana Statehood agitation , Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram on Thursday said we are sorry for loss of lives in the agitation but you can’t hold the then (UPA) central government responsible for that.
Talking to media persons here, Chidambaram stated that creation or dividing any State was not child’s play and it could not be done “just like that.”

The Centre’s decision in the formation of separate statehood was in response to the people’s movement, he said that the congress agreed for the formation of Telangana after a great amount of work.
Responding to Chidambaram’s apologies for the loss of lives during Telangana agitation, BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR) on X said “Too late and too little Chidambaram ji. Your party is solely responsible for taking the lives of hundreds of Telangana youngsters from 1952 to 2014”.
“No matter how hard you try now, people of Telangana will always remember the brutalities Congress perpetrated on us,” he added.

During the ongoing election campaign, BRS President and Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) charged the UPA government with delaying the formation of Telangana resulting in loss of lives.
After 4 years of peaceful and impactful protests, the then UPA government started the statehood process in July 2013 and concluded the process by passing the statehood bill in both houses of Parliament in Feb 2014.
In the General Elections held in April 2014, Telangana Rashtra Samithi emerged victorious by winning 63 of the 119 seats and formed the government. KCR was sworn in as the First Chief Minister of Telangana. The Telangana state was inaugurated formally on June 2nd 2014.
