Srinagar, Nov 4: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Friday called India’s move to abstain from voting on a UN resolution that called for an immediate humanitarian truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict as “regrettable”.
Abdullah said this after chairing a meeting of some regional mainstream parties in Srinagar . The meeting over the ongoing Middle East crisis was attended by Peoples Democratic Party President Mehboobhu Mufti and CPI(M) leader M Yusuf Tarigami also participated in the emergency meeting today in Srinagar.
“It is regrettable that our Government ( Of India) abstained from the UN resolution on the war. The government of India should have put forth its view point and stressed upon the need for the return of peace,” NC president told reporters.
Abdullah said when India can talk about Ukraine, it is important for the country to talk about Palestine also.
“The way the killings have happened, there is no example of this brutality and even children are not spared. They have converted Gaza into rubble and flattened it . There are no medicines and other essentials for the people,” he said while appealing the world leaders to wake up and end this war.
Abdullah said that India should express its concern on this situation and play a positive role in ending the war in Palestine.
“Mahatma Gandhi’s nation needs to speak up,” he said, while welcoming the step of the Prime Minister for sending aid to Gaza.
“ But PM needs to speak up now,” NC president said.
Abdullah said the Friday meeting in Srinagar was not of People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.
