Bengaluru, Nov 3 — While India has secured a spot in the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the battle for the remaining three spots is intense. South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia currently occupy the other top-four positions, but with 12 group stage matches yet to be played, the race is wide open.

Current Standings:

  1. India (7 matches, 14 points)
  2. South Africa (7 matches, 12 points)
  3. New Zealand (7 matches, 8 points)
  4. Australia (6 matches, 8 points)

Qualification Pathways for Teams:

  • South Africa: Need to win at least one of their remaining two matches against India and Afghanistan.
  • Australia: Must win all three remaining matches against England, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh to finish on 14 points.
  • New Zealand: Need to win both remaining matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka and finish with a better net run rate than at least one of the four other teams (India, South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan) that can reach 12 points.
  • Pakistan: Have to win both remaining matches and finish with a better net run rate than many other teams that can also finish on 10 points.
  • Afghanistan: Must win at least one but ideally all three remaining matches against Netherlands, Australia, and South Africa to finish on 12 points.
  • Sri Lanka: Need to win two remaining matches against Bangladesh and New Zealand to finish on 8 points and increase net run rate.
  • Netherlands: Must win at least two but ideally all three remaining matches against Afghanistan, England, and India to finish on 10 points and increase net run rate.
  • Bangladesh: Cannot qualify for the knockout stage.
  • England: Must win all three remaining matches against Australia, Netherlands, and Pakistan to finish on 8 points and increase net run rate.
