Sindhudurg, Nov 01: The flying squad of State Excise department on Tuesday seized
India-made foreign liquor worth Rs 72 lakh from a truck at Insuli village in Sawantwadi tehsil of Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra while allegedly being smuggled into the state from Goa and arrested its driver in this connection.
On a tip off, an Excise team laid a trap at Insuli village and stopped a truck on suspicion, an official press release said.
During search of the vehicle, the team found total 48,000 bottles of foreign liquor made in Goa.
They confiscated all liquor bottles worth Rs 72 lakh and truck worth Rs 30 lakh used for transportation, taking total value of seizure to Rs 1.2 crore.
They have arrested truck driver Jagdish Devaram Bishnoi, resident of Bhatip in Jallor district of Rajasthan, in this connection.
