Lucknow, Oct 30: To ensure the safety and convenience of devotees during the Maha Kumbh in 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government is set to invest approximately Rs 400 crore in the electricity system alone. This budget is twice the amount spent for the Kumbh Mela in 2018-19, which was Rs 192 crore. The substantial investment aims to enhance the illumination and power supply infrastructure for the upcoming grand event.
Over 67,000 street lights, including around 2,000 solar hybrid street lights, will be installed to illuminate the entire Maha Kumbh Mela area, with a focus on major ghats and road junctions. The government plans to arrange 109 DG sets to ensure 24-hour uninterrupted power supply throughout the fair area. Additionally, 15 Ring Main Units (RMUs) of 11 kV will be installed to facilitate immediate power retrieval in case of interruptions.
Preparations are underway to ensure adequate manpower and modern equipment for an uninterrupted power supply during the Maha Kumbh. Four modern vans will be deployed for repairing street lights in the Mela area, and four mobile high-mast generators will provide illumination at various worksites within the fair area. Following the Maha Kumbh, these generators will be repurposed for the upcoming Magh Mela in Prayagraj.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) will play a crucial role in monitoring streetlights and power distribution during the Maha Kumbh. Around 1.5 lakh ICT-based monitoring systems, utilizing QR coding and geo-tagging, will be implemented to quickly detect faults and address current leakages. The power supply infrastructure for the entire area will be mapped using Autocad for effective monitoring of power distribution during the fair.
