Agra, Oct 26: Two persons were injured when two general coaches of Patalkot Express train running between Firozpur in Punjab and Seoni in Madhya Pradesh caught fire in Malpura area of Agra district in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, a police officer said here.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Sonam Kumar said that two general coaches of Patalkot Express caught fire.
“Five fire tenders were deployed to douse the fire and all the passengers were rescued safely. Two persons sustained injuries and have been admitted to the hospital. An inquiry is being conducted into the cause of fire,” he said.
Police sources said that the incident took place near Bandai railway station when the two coaches of the express train caught fire on the Agra-Jhansi section. “The train reached Agra Cantt station in the afternoon from where it left for Jhansi. It is being said that after crossing Bandai railway station an explosion took place in one of the general coaches,” they said.
The sources said that this led to panic among the passengers and they jumped out of the coaches in a bid to save lives. “The driver applied emergency brakes and informed the control room about the fire.
Railway officers along with fire tenders reached the spot and controlled the fire,” they said.
Police sources said that the incident disrupted train traffic on the Agra-Jhansi section and several trains, including Vande Bharat, Durg and Hamsafar, were stopped at Agra railway station.
