Jammu, Oct 18: Newly appointed Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain on Tuesday said that cooperation of the people is must to control crime, drug menace and terrorism.
“Police-public meetings would be conducted after short intervals at different locations, as cooperation of the people is a must to control crime, drug menace and terrorism,” the top cop said speaking at the police-public meet in Samba district.
He further said that police would start an exclusive helpline to create awareness among youth against drug abuse and to provide required counselling.
He was flanked by Deputy Inspector General of Police JSK Range, Shakti Kumar Pathak, SSP Samba Benam Tosh and other officials.
He also held a darbar of officers and officials and listened to their reports empathetically with a view to redress the genuine grievances on priority.
The Jammu Zone Police chief, who is also head of ACB J&K, also presided over the police-public meet at District Police Headquarters Samba which was attended by a large number of prominent citizens, social workers, intellectuals, PRIs and other respectable persons from all walks of life hailing from different parts of the district.
IGP also chaired crime review meetings and issued directives to all the police officers of the district to wipe out residual heroin menace from the district at the earliest taking stringent legal action against all smugglers and suppliers of narcotic substances especially heroin (‘chitta’).
The SDPOs, SHOs and IC PPs were directed to conduct thorough investigation of NDPS cases and unearth forward and backward linkages of smugglers so that no conspirator or perpetrator of narco crime remains Scot free.
Addressing the darbar of officials, IGP Jammu Zone directed the officers and officials to adopt a people-friendly approach and serve the people honestly and dedicatedly.
He asked the police officers and officials to examine the complainants at the Police Stations patiently, politely and respectfully irrespective of their stature.
