Jammu, Oct 18: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has given the green light to the establishment of the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) in Ladakh, as proposed by the Department of Youth Services and Sports. The center, situated at the newly constructed Open Stadium in Spituk, Leh, will focus on the disciplines of Athletics, Boxing, and Archery.
The approval includes the allocation of technical manpower such as a High-Performance Director, Head Coach, Assistant Coach, Physiologist, Nutritionist, Masseur, Doctor, Sports Injury Management team, Yoga instructor, Physiotherapist, and conditioning Experts. Additionally, Sports Science equipment for archery, athletics, and boxing has been sanctioned.
The funding sanctioned for the Excellence Centre is Rs 3.139 crores for the 2023-24 Financial Year and Rs. 1.195 crores for subsequent years. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SAI and the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, will be signed, and advertisements for various posts and procurement of sports items are in progress.
The KISCE in Ladakh aims to bring a scientific and modern approach to sports development in the region, providing a platform for young talents to excel. Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, Ravinder Kumar, extended congratulations to the sportspersons and youth of Ladakh on this significant development.
