Bhadohi, Oct 14 : In a successful joint operation conducted by Bhadohi police and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), two smugglers were apprehended with more than 13 kilograms of gold biscuits. Acting on information received from the DRI about three smugglers from Buxar in Bihar passing through Bhadohi with illicit gold, an intensive vehicle checking drive was launched on Friday evening.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Meenakshi Katyayan stated that the smugglers, realizing they were surrounded by the police in the Sarroi area, abandoned their vehicle and escaped into the Morwa river jungle. Subsequent searches led to the recovery of 13.16 kg of gold biscuits, valued at approximately Rs 8.45 crore in the international market.
During a combing operation on Saturday, two smugglers, identified as Rahul Mahadev and Deepak More from Sangli, Maharashtra, were arrested from the Morwa jungle between Bhadohi and Aurai. However, one accomplice managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The third smuggler, Ashish Vitthal, is still at large.
Reports suggest that the smugglers had planned to transport the illegally obtained gold, likely smuggled through the Bangladesh border, to Maharashtra via Buxar and Bhadohi. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect and uncover further details of the smuggling operation.
